Judith Arthy born c.1940 Brisbane, Australia is an Australian actress, now retired, and writer.
Arthy made her professional debut with the Brisbane Repertory Theater in 1958 and from 1961 appeared onstage in Sydney - initially in Alan Seymour's The One Day of the Year - and later in Melbourne. Arthy appeared on Australian television from 1962 and made her cinematic debut in the Australian film They're a Weird Mob in 1966; that same year Arthy began an extended stay in the UK inaugurating a series of British television credits with a guest spot on The Baron, with subsequent credits including Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), Clouds of Witness on Masterpiece Theatre and Z-cars. Arthy made her London stage debut in William Douglas-Home'sThe Secretary Bird in 1968 and subsequently participated in the 1970 season at the Chichester Festival Theatre appearing in Arms and the Man and Peer Gynt. She also had supporting roles in the films The Shuttered Room and Arthur! Arthur!. In 1975 Arthy resumed her stage and television career in Australia: her final apparent screen credit was the Australian television series Case For the Defense which ran in May and June 1978. Arthy has since taught secondary-school English and Drama in Brisbane and has had two novels published: Goodbye Goldilocks in 1984 and - for younger readers - The Children of Mirrabooka in 1997. Arthy was married to Australian croquet champion and film-maker Aggy Read at the time of Read's death 22 August 1998.
